Don't you just adore modern pharmaceutical advertisements?
While jovial actors run hand-in-hand on the beach, play catch with their grandchildren, or share a romantic supper, a calming voiceover warns us that the medicine "may cause dizziness, dry mouth, seizures, abrupt death," and later "blindness..."
Natural Psoriasis Treatments
The image displayed on the screen was purposefully chosen to soften the message that these drugs are potent and can have negative effects despite being generally safe.
So-called biological drugs have been developed over the last few decades to treat diseases that were previously difficult to treat. Television is flooded with advertisements for the biological drugs we use to treat psoriasis. They treat it accordingly.
Simply put, they have become the benchmark for anyone looking to overcome the pain and humiliation associated with having irritated, inflamed, scaly skin that flakes and bleeds.
But not everyone should take these drugs. Fortunately, many earlier treatments are still in use and still work well. Additionally, the number of all-natural psoriasis therapies has been continuously expanding. To get the best outcomes, we frequently mix prescription drugs with herbal remedies. The National Psoriasis Foundation's website provided the following list of natural psoriasis treatments. (Warning: Before attempting any self-directed attempt to balance your herbs and drugs, see your doctor.)
3 grams of turmeric daily with a teaspoon of black pepper is a great anti inflammatory.
Other non herbal natural FDA approved treatments are:
- Vitamin D and this can be had free from the sun
- Light box phototherapy
- Zinc Cream
- Salicylic acid creams and Shampoos
Please consult with a naturopathic practitioner, or your physician before trying any unfamiliar herbs as you may be allergic.
