How Do Plants Sense Sunlight?
Photosynthesis is the process by which every plant seeks sunlight and grows.
Having a steady source of light will help a plant be healthy.
But what if there was no active light source?
In the deep, dense jungle, the larger trees block away sunlight from the smaller trees. It's a competition.
Over millions of years however, plants have developed more interesting methods in order to capture the maximum amount of sunlight through their leaves.
A team of international scientists have provided definitive insights into the driving force behind this movement — the plant hormone Auxin.
“Even mature plants bend toward the strongest light. They do this by elongating the cells of the stem on the side that is farthest from the light. This type of light-oriented growth is called phototropism,” explains Prof. Claus Schwechheimer from the Chair of Plant Systems Biology at the Technische Universität München (TUM).
Survival is as real as it gets.
